WORKSHOP ON “TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES AND OUR DUTIES”

Road safety is of prime importance as road accidents are among the biggest causes of death in the country. Road safety entails the protection of all road users. Accident hazards on the road include dangers to the driver, passengers, and other road users while both business and leisure driving. The majority of today’s traffic accidents are caused by either a lack of awareness of traffic guidelines or a disregard for traffic guidelines. Keeping all these aspects in mind, the Department of Civil Engineering, FEAT, SGTU organized a One-day Workshop on ‘Traffic Control Devices and Our Duties”, on 27 April 2022 at Room No. 308, E-Block, SGT University. The discussion began with a quick overview of the present state of road accident-related mortality in India. With the use of brief videos, the speaker introduced the audience to the language of roads, i.e. traffic lights, in a very participatory way. Along with the protective gear, the need of wearing a helmet was also emphasized. There was also a brief discussion on pre-ride checks and riding posture in two-wheeler riding. A discussion on safe following distance (2-second rule) was held at the end of the session.
