Industrial visit at CSSRI Karnal
The Department of Civil Engineering had organized an “Analytical Cum Research Visit” to Central Soil Salinity Research Institute (CSSRI), Karnal, Haryana, on 27 February 2019. In that, the students of 4th and 6th semester, B.Tech, Civil Engineering visited the CSSRI research laboratory. The purpose of this visit was to help students get better understanding of the soil & water-related parameters such as pH, salinity, as studied under saline conditions. This visit provided exposure to the scientific instrumentation involved in the testing of saline soil samples collected from different parts of the country. This laboratory visit is a continuation of HOPP site visit that was conducted on 30 January 2019 and will help students in correlating “Haryana Government Field Projects with the laboratory testing techniques”.
Central Soil Salinity Research Institute (CSSRI) is an institute of national importance and serving the nation through interdisciplinary research on salinity/ alkalinity management and use of poor quality irrigation waters in different agro-ecological zones of the country. CSSRI is currently undertaking research for conditions arising under surface drainage congestion, high water table and following plans for managing alkali soils of Central and Eastern Gangetic Plains. In the institute, major research activities include preparation and communication of data on salt-affected soils besides periodic assessment of the state of soil resources, and saline waters for crop production. In the post-reclamation phases, the focus is on developing resource conservation technologies. Under the support and guidance of Ms. Sweety Rajput (HOD, Department of Civil Engineering), two faculty members; Mr. Neeraj Verma and Mr. Satyam Garg had coordinated & accompanied the students to CSSRI laboratory in Karnal.
