Educational Cum Industrial Visit- Haryana Operational Pilot Project (HOPP)

Educational Cum Industrial Visit- Haryana Operational Pilot Project (HOPP)

The Department of Civil Engineering conducted a visit at HOPP site (Haryana Operational Pilot Project) in Kahni Village and Lakhan Majra Workshop, dated on 30 January 2019. In total 40 students, including B.Tech. And M.Tech. Level (Civil Engineering) visited the HOPP site. The purpose of this visit was to help students in better understanding of the soil related parameters studied under saline soil reclamation. In addition to that workshop, visit enhanced the understanding of students toward machinery used for reclamation of soil. This visit provided knowledge of different on-site experiments to determine the soil related parameters such as pH, salinity etc. Because of the Haryana Government’s efforts for the farmers’ development, Haryana Operational Pilot Project (HOPP) has implemented the reclamation of soils at different waterlogged and saline soils in Haryana. Haryana Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare Department has established Sub-Surface Drainage (SSD) projects in 10,844 hectares of waterlogged and saline soils. Technical Support has been provided by “Central Soil Salinity Research Institute”, Karnal, Haryana. The average cost of a system under this is Rs. 80,000 per hectare. The on-going Haryana Operational Pilot Project is Sonepat-III SSD Project in “Kanhi Village” covering the 200-hectare area and associated workshop is in Lakhan Majra in district Rohtak, Haryana. Students collected soil samples for in-situ testing at Environmental Engineering Laboratory, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, at SGT University. Under the support and guidance of Ms. Sweety Rajput (HOD, Department of Civil Engineering), three faculty members; Dr Neeraj Saini, Mr Satyam Garg and Ms Preeti Kuhar (Assistant Professor)  coordinated “Educational Cum Industrial Visit”
